Famed Harlem gallery owner, Lewis P. Long, is set to lead the first talk of #BlackArtMatters, sponsored by Morristown’s revered Art in the Atrium, officials said.

We are so excited to bring Lewis P. Long to Morristown to share his insights into the true value and accessibility of investing in black art,” said Simone Craig, CEO of Art in the Atrium. “He is the perfect arts leader to start the #BlackArtMatters conversation on July 19th.”

Long, founder/owner of the Long Gallery Harlem, is also the Associate Director of External Affairs for the Columbia University Wallach Art Gallery. Long is also a White House Fellow, and an alumnus of Harvard Business School and Howard University. His gallery provides a creative forum for under-represented artists and is a trusted resource for art collectors navigating the seemingly impenetrable art world.

Black art has always been here, but it’s important for the black community to also see the value of it, not just as a cultural treasure, but as an investment,” Craig said. “Black art produces profound and important work for the culture and we want everyone to come join us to find out more about it. We cannot wait to have Lewis lead this inaugural talk for us.”

The #BlackArtMatters Series: The Case for Investing in Black Art will be held at the Atrium Gallery on Wednesday, July 19th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with Long’s talk beginning at 6:15 p.m. Free to the public. Dessert will be served; first-come, first-served. On-street and paid public parking is available. The location: 10 Court Street, Administration and Records Building, Morris County Courthouse Complex, Morristown, NJ. Free, RSVP required: artintheatrium.org/blackartmatters/.

Sponsors of the accompanying Art in the Atrium exhibit, Black Art in the Sun, include: Novartis Pharmaceuticals, Atlantic Health System, Morris County Commissioners, Morris Arts partnered with the New Jersey State Council on the Arts. The exhibit is on display through August 18th. Exhibit admission is free and open during business hours.
