A Celebration of Black Art through an immersion of music, visual art, dance and food

Diaspora Sessions will host their inaugural annual fundraiser for the celebration of art of the Black Diaspora in the city of Berkeley, CA on December 17, 2022 at Ciel Creative Space. This event, The Sacred Turn Up, will support the funding of community programs; including school lectures, public workshops, and Black youth scholarship fund; highlighting the development and contributions of art originating within the African Diaspora.

Diaspora Sessions: The Sacred Turn Up seeks to preserve and present the musical art forms, dance and artistic disciplines within the African Diaspora through education, media and live performance. This unique event will feature numerous San Francisco Bay Area artists, including Grammyâ„¢ Award Winning Pianist and Composer, Tammy L. Hall, acclaimed Musician, Visual Artist and Educator, Cava Menzies, award-winning, Jazz and Blues Vocalist, Tiffany Austin, acclaimed Multi-disciplinary Artist, Kenya Moses and more.

We seek to create spaces where Black people feel co-ownership in the artistic spaces in which we perform and inhabit,” said Diaspora Sessions Co-Founder, Tiffany Austin. “A space where black culture is not treated as a spectacle but as a cultural milieu, to be engaged with genuine curiosity and respect.”

Attendees of The Sacred Turn Up will indulge in delicious cuisine, signature libations, engaging conversation, with awe inspiring music, dance and visual art.

This event has partnered with Zoo Labs, Ciel Creative Space and fiscally sponsored by Intermusic SF.

Art from the Black Diaspora is most often experienced through a lens outside of its origination”, said Diaspora Sessions Co-Founder, Kenya Moses. “It is our goal to honor, educate and celebrate the many black artists who came before us, are here now and will come after us.”
