African Small Pot is more than a typical African restaurant. It is an experience. With a master chef who has almost 40 years experience in food preparation and a culinary degree from Milan, Italy, African Small Pot offers the finest West African, Italian AND American cuisine.

African Small Pot’s owner, Abdarahmane Diop (pronounced dee-ōp), is a Mauritanian native who started his cooking career working on Goree Island in Senegal almost 40 years ago. Since then Diop has committed his life to developing his culinary skills and expressing his love of people through his food. Early in his career, Diop worked at a major hotel restaurant in Nouakchott, the capital of Mauritania, West Africa. Diop’s cooking education took him to Milan, Italy where he completed his degree in culinary arts from a cooking school in Milan, Italy with a specialty in preparing Italian food. He later owned and operated a successful restaurant in Nouakchott for years until he was forced to flee his home country. Shortly after he arrived in the United States in 1994, he began working for Sam’s Saloon & Restaurant in Glenolden, PA. Fluent in 8 languages, Diop worked at the Delaware County Italian restaurant for almost 20 years serving as head chef with his good friend and favorite boss, the late Rosario (“Big Russ”) Terazzi and his good friend the late Diva Orlando. Together they grew the business from two rooms to four sections.

At the African Small Pot Restaurant, Diop combines his years of experience, zest for cooking and love of people to create the finest dining experience possible delivered with warm African hospitality. African Small Pot Restaurant offers higher quality, mouthwatering recipes and delightful dishes from West Africa, America AND Europe. African Small Pot uses the quality ingredients in their unique and traditional secret recipes. African Small Pot is managed with high standards of cleanliness and professionalism.
