Our artist pick of the week is the impeccable Eric Roberson. If you’ve been to an Eric Roberson concert, you know it’s a vibe, constant interaction with the audience and lyrics that move and groove you. He will leave you with a lasting impression, and in his recent album, you will get a few life lessons to ponder on as well.
It feels like real R&B has taken a back seat to the streets with trap music over the past several years. A shift is necessary, and the recent video “Lessons” (Remix) featuring Anthony Hamilton, Raheem Devaughn, and Kevin Ross is perfect timing.
The lyrics, melody, harmony, and nostalgia have us reflecting on our very own relationships. Reminiscing on the love you currently have and the gratefulness for the hurt and pain that you may have gone through to lead you to that very special person that God has prepared you for.
This album will take you through an emotional journey that we all can relate to. It’s especially nice to get a man’s point of view like “Letting My Guard Down,” featuring Mumu Fresh. It’s a beautiful ballot about the fears we face when falling in love—surrendering to the feeling, letting someone hold your heart in their hand, and being content with the sentiment of letting love win.
Eric Roberson has been in our rotation for years. “Lessons” is a testament that loving someone is a process. It’s not all roses, but worth having.
