DOMINICAN REPUBLIC
I have to give my two cents to the current issues that have been plaguing the Dominican Republic.
Being an avid traveler I wasn’t phased by the stories coming out of the DR, but as of late, I have to give it the side-eye.
Ironically I considered going to the DR over Memorial Day weekend for a quick getaway, but my schedule didn’t permit. I believe that this is a media scare tactic. Money is the main factor. A large majority of the economic structure is based on tourism.
I pray for the families who have lost their loved ones tragically and the woman who was assaulted. There are a few cases at a particular resort(s) that does seem suspicious, but we have to wait and see what the results are. Some of the people weren’t in the best of health and who knows what they consumed or ingested. I think the health department should look into the liquor. But, to sum things up, there are places more dangerous than the D.R. and I do not think they are killing Americans. I think this is more of a health advisory as it pertains to “some” of the accommodations.
When traveling in and out of the country always be aware of your surroundings, don’t take drinks from strangers, do your research on the resort your staying, and remember that not everyone that you encounter has your best interest at heart. That is just my raw and unbiased truth. You can’t trust everyone you meet.
Take a look at this video from Mister Flip Flop, who lives in the DR to gain perspective.
So the question is… would you go to the Dominican Republic?

It’s so crazy to think about what’s going on in the DR, and I hate the idea of these families sending off their loved ones for a trip in paradise and they never return. I’m currently planning my 30th birthday trip to Cancun and it’s made me even more aware of my surroundings and what’s happening. I just pray for these families, continuously.
I love Mexico. You will have a blast. But yes, please be careful! Mexico has it’s downfalls too. Some guy approached me and my dad and asked us if we wanted drugs! We looked at him like he was melting and he quickly walked away. So those who go and want to act a fool will certainly pay the consequences.

I hate that what we suspect could indeed be a reality. As far as would I go to DR…. NO. I’m good luv, enjoy! lol. I’ll stay my happy ass at home, at least until we figure out what’s happening to these people. I don’t care if it’s a media stunt or not, I’m not going.
Lol. I’m not mad at you. I hope they figure out what the issue is especially with the Bahia hotel and Hard Rock. Those are popular resorts and no one should fear drinking the liquor especially when they go there to relax and let loose!
I was thinking about going to the DR this summer. I feel like the media is hyping up traveling out of the country because so many people are going out and seeing the world and america is afraid people will get hip to their bs.
I agree. It’s a political thing as well. Tariff issues…The US is in a tariff war with a China and China recently worked out deal with the DR. Not say that people dying is a lie, but they are exploiting it, which is sad for the families and the country. Like any place you travel to, if you are not a native always proceed with caution, but travel til your heart is content. Most people who said they will not go to the DR probably have not even been out of the US or have a passport.
I really think everywhere you go there are some risks. People in general are not aware of what’s going on around them. Because I am a black girl, I am more aware of who is around me. I would still plan a trip there but I wouldn’t drink the liquor.
