The Uncle Nearest Whiskey brand is that of many African American inventors and trailblazers that have come to light—being the brains behind one of the most successful whiskey brands, Jack Daniel’s, teaching Jack how to make the revered Tennessee Whiskey. Nathaniel “Nearest” Green, acknowledged in Jack Daniel’s Autobiography published in 1967 as the head distiller. But as the decades passed, the story was shelved. Because who would think that a slave would be capable of creating such perfection! Well, Nathaniel “Nearest” Green is getting his flowers!
After their unveiling in 2017, Uncle Nearest expanded into all 50 states and internationally in a matter of two years! Awarded Double Gold at the 2020 San Francisco World Spirit Competition, named the “World’s Best” at Whisky Magazine’s World Whiskies Awards two years in a row, and Wine Enthusiast’s Spirit Brand of the Year for the 2020 Wine Star Awards. Uncle Nearest is now the best selling African American whiskey/bourbon brand in history. Receiving 150+ awards and accolades within the first three years.
To this day the family is still in the whiskey business. Victoria Eady Butler, the great great granddaughter to Nathaniel Green is Uncle Nearest’ master blender.
