Did you know that it’s Black Music Month? This week’s URBN SOCIAL artist pick of the week was featured on Tiny Desk. We were like, who is this? So we dug in….
India Perkins aka Ambrè (formally Ambrè Perkins), is a newer voice in the R&B genre hailing from New Orleans, LA. Her soft and subtle sound with racey lyrics captivates audiences. This 26-year-old singer-songwriter, signed to Rock Nation in 2019, recently debuted her ep titled “who’s loving you?” with three albums and a number of mixed tapes under her belt. Her sound, intertwined with sting and base instruments, is delicious.
At first glance, you would think, “She’s about to bust a serious rap flow,” then boop! She hits you with a soft soprano melody.
Ambrè’s lyrics embody love and relationships, giving us Summer Walker vibes with a mix of grit. Representing the LGBTQ+ community, she is not shy about what she likes. That honesty bodes well in her music, which is authentic, emotional, and relatable, whichever way you rock.
Don’t be confused, Ambrè is paying her dues. Performing with some of the industry’s most talented artists like Jvck James, and writing songs for Khelani, H.E.R, Masego, Chloe x Halle, and many more.
We love to see artists mature and evolve in front of our eyes. Let’s see what hit she’s going to drop next.
Follow Ambrè on Instagram, Twitter, YouTube, and Facebook for additional information and future tour dates.
