Our artist pick of the week is the impeccable and dynamic Rachelle Ferrell!

Best known on the jazz scene, Rachelle Farrell started singing at six and has an octave range of six. What does that mean? Well, she can sing with a whistle. Yes, honey! We know only a few artists who can hit that octave, the late great Minnie Ripperton and Phyllis Hyman! After graduating from Berklee College of Music, Ferrell started singing background vocals for Patti LaBelle, Goerge Duke, Vanessa Williams, and Lou Rawls.

Farrell broke out on her own with her first album self titled “Rachelle Farell,” in 1992.

Hands down, one of our favorite songs is: “Nothing Has Ever Felt Like This” Featuring Will Downing.

From her self titled album, “Rachelle Farrell”

Her next album, “Individuality (Can I Be Me?),” tells a story of growing pains self-reflection, and the song “Sista” gives admiration to women. Those who are constant friends, the ones we can depend on and lean on anytime, anywhere.

Her discography is timeless, and her vocals are unmatched. She deserves her flowers, and we celebrate Rachelle Farrell during women’s history month.

Thank you for giving us music that moves our spirit. We are patiently waiting on the next album.

Meanwhile, you can listen to and download music from Rachelle Farrell on Apple Music, Pandora, YouTube Music, and iHeart.
