Virgil Abloh: The Loss of an Icon

The fashion industry was shaken by the loss of the iconic fashion designer Virgil Abloh at the age of 41. Sunday, November 28th, 2021 it was announced that Virgil Abloh loss his battle with cancer.

“For over two years, Virgil valiantly battled a rare, aggressive form of cancer, cardiac angiosarcoma. He chose to endure his battle privately since his diagnosis in 2019, undergoing numerous challenging treatments, all while helming several significant institutions that span fashion, art, and culture.”

Cardiac Angiosarcoma is a very rare cancer tumor formed in the muscle or blood vessel of the heart that blocks the blood flow in and out of the chamber.

Born to Ghanaian immigrant parents and growing up in Illinois, Virgil became the Founder and CEO of the fashion brand Off White and the first and only black Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton. He is also known for this work with Kanye West and his collaboration with Mercedes Benz and Nike. Virgil made culture luxurious in his innovative designs, artwork, and savvy street style.

Louis Vuitton announced that they will be paying tribute today, Tuesday, November 30th, by showing Virgil’s final collection in Miami at 5:30 pm (ET).

He is survived by his wife, Shannon, their two children, Lowe and Grey, his sister Edwina and parents Nee and Eunice. Our prayers go out to his family and friends.
