The past 72 hours has been filled with heartache and pain. George Floyd a 46 year old native of Houston Texas moved to Minneapolis looking for a new start and job. On Monday May 25th, a video was taken of four officers arresting him.
When police arrived he wasn’t combative and viewed to be following orders. Then in a turn of events, being taken to the patrol car Floyd is shown being thrown to the ground and three men on top him including one officers knee being “pressed” into Floyd’s neck.
The officeres Derek Chauvin, Thomas Lane, Tou Thao and J. Alexander Kueng.
Three officers on one man while another standing to keep the public back. Clearly you hear Floyd saying “I cant breath!” Yet they did nothing!
The public pleading with the police officers. Yet nothing was done.
Officer Derek Chauvin seen with his knee pressed into Floyd’s neck until he went limp.
The officeres were put on administrative leave and subsequently fired. But justice has still not been done.
“Why is the man who killed George Floyd not in jail?” Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said in a press conference Wednesday. “If you had done it, or I had done it, we would be behind bars right now.” On the other hand, the public would like to see all four former officers arrested.
Last night’s riots have proven that a change has to come. Police officers should be held to a higher standard. To protect and to serve. Leaving the judgment to a judge and jury!
We pray for the Floyd family and the overall state of our country.
