LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS
I’ve been wanting to post about long distance relationships for a while now, but it’s such a sensitive subject for me.Â
Long distance relationships are very hard and I just wanted to give a little insight to those who may be in one or thinking about getting into one. A few things I’ve learned along the way:
TRUST
Trust is the first thing that comes to mind. This is something that you should have in any relationship. If you can’t trust the person that you’re with then there will be nothing but questions swirling around in your mind.
LOYALTY
Trust and loyalty have very different meanings but go hand in hand. Trust is the reliability, assurance, confidence in someone. Loyalty is the support and allegiance of one to another. You can’t have trust if there is no loyalty.
COMMUNICATION
This can make or break any relationship. Unless you are a mind reader there is no way of knowing what your significant other is thinking or feeling unless they tell you. Take the time (set a schedule if there is a time difference) to call or facetime and lastly text if the other two are not convenient.
PATIENCE
It is a virtue! Not everyone has patience and a long distance relationship will teach you. But not everyone is willing to wait. Let it be the person who is waiting for you to make a decision or vice versa. But with that being said a decision will need to be made in order for the relationship to last. One of you will have to make that decision to relocate. So if you are not open to pack your bags for love then end things before you get in too deep!
BUDGET
Set a budget for travel. Depending on where your significant other is located and your financial status you should set a budget for travel. Things can get quite expensive and to be fair you want to spread the expense evenly.
COMPROMISE
I wouldn’t say that compromise is always positive in a relationship unless the other person is willing to compromise too. Sometimes compromise is necessary in order to come together. There are things such as work or a social life that can take up the majority of your time, but if the person you’re in a relationship with is worth it and you see a future with him or her then you will make the time to spend with them.
Long distance relationships are easy at first, but only time will tell how things play out. This goes out to all of my long distance lovers if it’s meant to be it will be, but it takes time and a lot of work.Â
