URBN SOCIAL’S MUSIC PICK OF THE WEEK
Clearly we’ve been sleeping! Then “rona” came like a bat out of hell (literally) …shaking the bed. Well Chika to the rescue.
Born Jane Chika Oranika, this Montgomery Alabama native has been penned the “best of the new school” and is nothing short of a lyrical sorcerer.
Hypnotizing us all with lines like, “ Imitation is just inspiration, if you feel like taking it just be sure that you cite it”. And one of my favorites, “Well I know I ain’t got no hourglass figure; I can get smaller while my pockets get bigger”.
At the tender age of 22 she is wise beyond her years.
Giving us hits like “Industry Games” and “Balencies”, this college drop out has pushed passed the doubt and stereotypes that thin is in. Chika is comfortable in her own skin and letting her talent shine.
Her persistence paid off after doing a cover over the Kanye West hit “Jesus Walks” that went viral. Chika signed a record deal with Warner Records the summer of 2019. Her story is just beginning and we are here for it!
You can download her EP on itunes, Spotify and Pandora or click HERE for other music services
Check out her performance on NPR’s Tiny Desk below. Featuring her Industry Games video on our homepage (click on the vinyl record)
