On Wednesday, September 23rd a Louisville Kentucky grand jury announced that only one of the officers involved in the murder of Breonna Taylor will be charged. Officer Brett Hankison was charged with three counts of wanton endangerment, a class D felony that carries a penalty of one to five years in prison.
Under Kentucky law, a person commits that crime when he or she “wantonly engages in conduct which creates a substantial danger of death or serious physical injury to another person,” and does so “under circumstances manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life.
Breonna Taylor, a 26-year-old woman sleeping in her home was gunned down by police officers after a botched no knock search warrant on March 13th, 2020. These officers shot 20 bullets sight unseen into an apartment which resulted in Breonna being shot five times and pronounced dead on the scene. On September 15, 2020, the City of Louisville agreed to pay Taylor’s family $12 million and reform police practices as part of a settlement.
No amount of money will bring back this young lady and this is an example of how black women are not respected or protected!
We don’t want one man to be held responsible, but all to be held accountable for the actions they took that night resulting in Breonna’s death.
Here is what you can do to continue demanding #justiceforbreonna:
