ANTOINE FUQUA

Heard through the grapevine that you missed me, well, I’m back. Every now and again, we need to mentally check out in order to come back even better than before.

Let’s talk about Thursday.  Monday was a holiday, and we missed “Mad About Mondays”. Today we celebrate someone fabulous who is not only influential and inspirational but thought-provoking! Drum roll please….Mr. Antoine Fuqua!!!

“Whoop Whoop Whoop Whoop! Now I’m showing my age for all of my Arsenio Hall heads.  No idea who Arsenio Hall is? Go to bed because you’re too young to be reading this blog or just completely out of touch.

Now, if you have no idea who Antoine Fuqua is, your clearly living under a rock or haven’t had the pleasure of seeing one of the best damn movies of all time, “Training Day”. Denzel Washington and that famous line ” King Kong ain’t got shit on me”!

Training Day – (2001) (Rated R / Crime – Drama – Thriller)

If you’re new to my blog, “welcome”! That also means that you don’t know that I’m originally from Pittsburgh Pa where some greatest artist and entertainers were born, such as: Michael Keaton, Jeff Goldblum, Andy Warhol, Gene Kelly, George Benson, the creepy lady from Poltergeist, Zelda Rubinstein, Joe Manganiello, Dennis Miller, Dan Marino, and how can we forget Wiz Khalifa, “black and yellow, black and yellow”! The list goes on.

I, for one, am proud to say that the great Antoine Fuqua is like fine wine, he gets even better with time. He is one of the best African American film directors and producers of our time.

SOME FILMS:

Olympus Has Fallen (2013) (Rated R / Action – Thriller)
Southpaw (2015) (Rated R / Sport – Drama)
The Equalizer (2014) (Rated R / Crime – Action – Thriller)

Making his mark in the early 90s, he blessed us with visual narratives directing music videos for artists of the likes of Stevie Wonder, Prince, Toni Braxton, etc. Let’s not forget to mention he is married to the beautiful actress, Lela Rochon.

Well, Antoine isn’t slowing down, consistently producing and directing tv-series and is now in post-production of The Equalizer 2, get your popcorn ready!  I’d love to see him direct and produce a Marvel Comic movie next, wouldn’t you? Let’s give him a round of applause for being innovative, perfecting his craft, and paving the way for young African American directors and producers in the making.
