On Monday, December 4th, at approximately 11:00 am, two security guards working at the Macy’s department store in Center City Philadelphia, located on the 1300 block of Market Street, were fatally stabbed, leaving 27-year-old Eric Harrison deceased. The second victim, whose identification is unknown, remains in stable condition at a local hospital.
You may ask yourself, stabbed for what? Over hats! The suspect, 30-year-old Tyrone Garcell Tunnell, who was allowed to leave the store after giving back the items, left and then came back moments later, attaching both men with a knife. Tunnell fled on public transportation and was swiftly apprehended by SEPTA Transit Police. The Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office released a statement on Tuesday that Tunnell has formally been charged with Murder, Attempted Murder, Aggravated Assault, Simple Assault, Recklessly Endangering Another Person, Possession of an Instrument of Crime, Tampering with Evidence, and Retail Theft.
The store has since reopened, but we can’t shake the thought of these men being brutally attacked in broad daylight over something unprovoked and so senseless!
The family has put together a GoFundMe for Harrison’s funeral cost. If you have it in your heart to give: https://www.gofundme.com/f/eric-harrison
We will keep Eric Harrison’s family in our prayers and wish for a speedy recovery for the other young man.
Stay safe and vigilant this holiday season!
