Flagship Store Opening on June 24th + 7 Essential Tips to Zen Summer Skin

Nearly 1 million laser hair removal treatments were performed in the U.S. last year, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Moreover, new statistics prove that the procedure is becoming more popular, especially among women and transgender people. Angela McTair, CEO and founder of the Harlem Zen franchise, has always been passionate about beauty and skincare. “Face and body hair removal for pigmented skin and individuals with alternative lifestyles remains a puzzle to mainstream establishments and has caused skin trauma for underserved populations. Mixing up concoctions since childhood led me to work as a Chemical Engineer with the biggest beauty brands which brought to my attention the huge disparities in skincare. At Harlem Zen, we believe that people of all skin tones deserve access to safe and effective skincare and hair removal. We have created an oasis for all people, especially those on a journey of self-care, acceptance, freedom, and wellness,” says McTair. Harlem Zen will open the new flagship location in Harlem at 2520 Frederick Douglass Blvd, on June 24th, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

Angela McTair is an expert skin care professional; with extensive product development experience at Fortune 500 companies. “The birth of Harlem Zen was a personal mission and self-financed from my 401k. Our why is simple and complex – a multi-generational story of women of color in my family facing confidence-destroying facial hair sparked a business. The frustration in trying to affect change in this niche segment via my corporate jobs led me to pursue another path. Those challenges inspired the aim to help others conquer distressing aesthetic concerns – one person at a time with highly effective hands-on treatments, solid skincare strategy, and ongoing support,” beams McTair.

McTair has built brands from grassroots to giants, successfully managing over 30 beauty brands. After obtaining her Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering from Carnegie Mellon University, as a senior scientist at Johnson & Johnson, she developed formulas for the adult skin and hair, baby care, and wound care categories. Her strong analytical and Chemistry background, supported by a Master’s degree in Cosmetic Science from Fairleigh Dickinson University, gives Ms. McTair a rare blend of proficiencies. At The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, Ms. McTair received world-class business training focusing on Marketing and Strategy. These skill sets have been vital in her success with consumer packaged goods giants, including L’OrealUnileverEstee Lauder, and Neutrogena.

McTair opened the first Harlem Zen in 2015 to provide exceptional professional skincare services and now has two additional locations in Atlanta. Re-opening in NYC after a prolonged shutdown is a testament to the pandemic-proof nature of this resilient small business. She currently operates Harlem Zen full-time. This diverse portfolio of experiences makes her a go-to resource in skincare. A desire to fill consumer need gaps with innovative solutions that genuinely work has always been her passion and continues to drive her daily. “Everyone deserves a sanctuary and permission to feel good in their skin; access to safe and affordable professional skincare solutions is the credo of Harlem Zen,” declares Angela McTair.
